School Town Empowers Students for Self-directed Learning and Raises the Bar in Classroom Collaboration

School Town, LLC, a leader in collaboration applications, unveiled a student
learning system (SLS) with a set of life‐long learning skill features at NECC in San Antonio last week. "Our
vision brings school and other parts of life such as sports, activities, and family into focus with exciting time
management and goal setting features.” said Mike Kritzman, School Town founder, CEO and parent.
“School Town helps students become self directed and independent. Our learners are empowered, not
simply told what to do. We also make it safe and fun to connect socially with other members in the user’s
real world groups.

School Town is distinguishing itself by introducing a unique and highly desired student learning system (SLS)
that engages students in active participation in a new, self‐directed learning process and empowers them
with life‐long learning skills. It also provides students with a set of interactive application tools for efficient
time management and safe social networking. More importantly, the SLS system has built‐in features to
allow classroom teachers to effectively facilitate the student‐centered, self‐directed learning and provide
differentiated instructions based on students’ academic data and self‐provided information. Parents are
provided with tools to play a more meaningful and active role in their children’s school learning and growth.
Through its safe social network environment, School Town expands students’ learning opportunity and
collaboration on projects beyond school walls and classroom hours.

“School Town represents a paradigm shift from school management system (SMS) to student learning
system (SLS) and it empowers students with responsibilities for self‐directed learning, a critical piece of the
puzzle for 21st Century Learning” as observed by Dr. Teh‐yuan Wan, Coordinator of Education Technology
Initiatives, New York State Education Department.

"School Town's distinguishing strength is the child/family orientation, as opposed to some sites that are
well organized for school, but do not address the whole context of the student's life" said Susan Sullivan,
Technology leader for Sacred Heart School in Winnetka, IL.

School Town also works great for professional development. Meg Ormiston, President of Tech Teachers, a
professional development firm, says “I teamed up with School Town this summer for professional
development on Web 2.0 tools. We’re absolutely paperless and totally organized. Everyone loves how
School Town arranges our projects and interactions.”

School Town marries the needs to be well organized and social with privacy and security that is so
important for younger members. "There are no strangers in School Town” says Kritzman.
“It’s a member’s only site where students, teachers, and families can connect. People really like our user
experience. It's great to see how much fun everyone is having."
